As part of a collective we met and decided to apply for a residency opportunity at Newlyn Gallery.

Three of us got together and discussed our works and how we could possibly work together.  We invited a few other artists to join us, who we felt would create a cohesive environment of exploration and experimentation.  In a morning we have made a proposal to the gallery and all written brief artists statements which we submitted.

We have since found out that although we were shortlisted we weren’t given the opportunity this time but have been encouraged to apply again.

Proposal – 2nd year Fine Artists collaborative Das Unheimliche

Stas Rybin, Charlie Day, Alberta Sheering, Lucy Whittaker, Haruka Fukao, Antonia Eden, Rosie, Winsor.

We are a collective of second year Fine Art students at Falmouth University. During group critiques and conversations we have realised similar themes exist within our bodies of work and have come together for this opportunity. We would like to work together within the gallery space, to explore some common themes across our separate practices including the idea of liminal space and the unheimlich. We hope to use this opportunity as an open or working studio space to test out new interactions and cross overs between our work, to create disconcerting spaces which explore the relationship to the gallery space and the public response, outside of the studio. This would also take our practices outside of the university studio space which will undoubtedly aid us in developing new ideas to further our practice both as individual artists and as a collective. It would be an invaluable opportunity to receive critical feedback from our peers, the public and gallery staff through presenting work professionally and working with the limitations and freedoms that comes from working outside of a studio space. We propose a collaborative experimental investigation into the different languages and media within our work to create new connections and possibilities. As this opportunity falls around our end of year exhibition and members of this collaborative are also a part of Café Morte we would be able to participate within week two or three.

Hi Lucy & co, Thank you again for your interest in Transition 2017. We had 64 applicants with an incredible range of proposals and it took a great deal of thought and discussion to make the final selection. You were shortlisted, it was close, but I’m sorry to say we aren’t able to offer you all a slot this year, but we aim for Transition to continue to be an annual project so do keep an eye on our website and social media. And I hope there will be other projects that we can work on together. I hope you will be able to make it over during Transition as I think there will be number of artists that you may enjoy meeting. Merry Christmas and I hope 2017 is good for you all, Very best, Blair Blair Todd
