Having watched a video on Richard Serra and exploring his verb list we were encouraged to work collaborately with the following materials: wood, glue and tape

As a group we began working individually and came together as a group.  This enabled wider experimentation and sparked different ideas which saw the structure grow.  We began to use the space to anchor the piece, securing it to the floor and it grew and attached to the workbenches, ceiling hooks and equipment.

I particularly liked it when somebody started to use sellotape to create planes on the structure which gave it a solidity and transparency.  Another member of the group added shavings of wood onto strips of sellotape which gave the appearance of the wood shavings floating down from the structure.

We went to investigate the other groups who were working with a different set of materials.  From this we incorporated sheets of plastic, metal and rope.  We borrowed a light and played with it’s postioning and documented it.

I really enjoyed using the workshop and working as a group – there were many ideas that I wouldn’t have thought of working solo.  By working as a group it also reduced the initial fear of the workshop and reduced any self conscious feelings that I had.
